UK Jobless Claims rise less than expected
The number of people claiming jobless benefits rose at a slower pace in August statistics showed on Wednesday. The Office for National Statistics showed however that the number of Britons claiming benefits rose less than expected.
UK Claimant Count Change was 20’300 in August versus consensus for 35’000 and down from 37’100 in July. The ILO unemployment rate for July was unchanged as expected at 7.9% while the claimant count rate was unchanged at 4.9% versus forecast for an increase to 5.0%.
GBP/USD rose to 1.5775 from 1.5745 prior to the jobs data, while EUR/GBP fell to 0.8652 from 0.8671.
