Retail sales less auto post biggest slump in 2 years
Advance retail sales in the United States fell for a second straight month in May, the Commerce Department said on Wednesday, while retail sales less autos posted their steepest decline in two years.
Advance retail sales fell to -0.2% as expected from 0.1% the previous month as demand for building materials plummeted and lower gas prices weighed on gas station’s receipts. Retail sales less autos dropped to -0.4% from 0.1% against a forecast for a flat number.
