France’s service sector grows, Germany misses estimate
The services sector in France grew at its fastest pace in January since August of last year, data showed on Friday, beating a flash estimate and December’s final reading. A purchasing managers’ index published by Markit/CDAF also showed the composite index rose more than expected from the preliminary reading but showed business expectations fell to its lowest since March 2009, giving rise to concern over Europe’s second largest economy.
The German services index on the other hand missed a growth estimate, showing growth in services activity grew slower than originally expected.
French services PMI jumped to 52.3 versus a flash reading of 51.7, up from 50.3 the previous month. The composite PMI also rose to 51.2 from a flash estimate of 50.9. German PMI services eased to 53.7 versus a previous flash estimate of 54.5.
